Older UK homes — Victorian terraced houses, 1930s semis, older flats, and traditional cottages — often have doorways narrower than modern building standards. Where modern homes have 76cm (30") doorways, older homes can have 71cm (28") or even narrower. Our narrow wheelchair range includes models with overall widths under 58cm, giving you 5–8cm of clearance in tighter doorways. Use a tape measure to find the narrowest point of your most-used doorways. Measure the actual opening (inside the door frame), not the door itself. If your home has older doors with thick frames or recessed hinges, measure from inside the frame at the narrowest point. Compare this against the overall width of the wheelchair (not the seat width — the seat width is just the seating area; the overall width is across the whole chair including wheels). Standard modern UK doorway: 76cm (30") — fits most powerchairs with room to spare. Older Victorian or 1930s home doorway: 71cm (28") — fits most ComfyGO narrow models with care. Older properties with narrower internal doors: 66cm (26") — fits only our slimmest models, and only with very careful positioning.
