Battery & Charging Guide

Battery & Charging Guide

Step-by-step instructions for installing, removing, and charging the battery on your ComfyGO electric wheelchair. Pick your model below to see the exact steps for your chair.

Not sure which model you have? Look on the sticker under the seat or on the chair frame, or check the box your chair came in.

Before you charge: 5 important safety rules

  • Always turn the wheelchair OFF before connecting the charger.
  • Never sit on or use the wheelchair while it is charging.
  • Do NOT leave the battery on charge overnight — unplug as soon as the indicator turns green. Prolonged charging beyond full can shorten battery life.
  • Charge in a cool, dry place between 5°C and 35°C — never on a sofa, bed, carpet, or near anything flammable.
  • Use only the charger we supplied (or a genuine ComfyGO replacement). Third-party chargers may invalidate the battery warranty.

Battery Care — Do & Don't

A few habits that protect your battery and keep you safe — applies to every ComfyGO chair.

✅ Do

  • Follow your product manual for charging times
  • Charge between 5°C and 35°C
  • Use only the supplied charger or a genuine ComfyGO replacement
  • Top up to 50–70% if storing for over a month
  • Store the battery indoors at room temperature
  • Unplug as soon as the indicator turns green
  • Call us if anything seems wrong

❌ Don't

  • Leave the battery on charge overnight
  • Charge in direct sunlight
  • Charge on a sofa, bed, or carpet
  • Use a third-party or unbranded charger
  • Sit on or use the wheelchair while it is charging
  • Let the battery sit fully discharged
  • Open, modify, or attempt to repair the battery

Common Charging Questions

Should I leave my battery on charge overnight?

No — we do not recommend it. Modern lithium-ion batteries do not need to be charged for extended periods. Prolonged charging beyond full can shorten battery life and, in rare cases, present a fire risk.

Charge the battery until the indicator turns green, then unplug. Charging time depends on the model — your product manual gives you the exact figure.

How long does a full charge take?

Full charging time varies by model. As a general guide, most ComfyGO mobility batteries reach full charge in several hours. The charger indicator turns green when fully charged.

For the exact figure for your specific wheelchair, please refer to your product manual.

The red light comes on but the battery doesn't seem to be charging

Check the basics first:

  • The wheelchair is turned OFF
  • The charger groove is not blocked
  • Both the output plug and main plug are firmly connected
  • The wall socket is working (try another appliance to confirm)
  • You are using the charger we supplied — not a third-party one

If everything checks out and the battery still doesn't charge, please call us on 0330 520 0720 for diagnostic help. There is no charge for diagnostics during the warranty period.

It's normal for the charger fan to make a sound, right?

Yes — completely normal. The charger contains a small cooling fan that runs while charging. A faint hum or whirr from the charger is expected and is not a fault.

If the sound is much louder than usual, the charger feels hot to touch, or you smell anything unusual, stop charging immediately and call us.

Can I use the wheelchair while it is charging?

No. Never sit on or use the wheelchair while it is charging. The charger should only be used for charging the battery, never with the wheelchair in operation. Wait until the indicator shows full charge, unplug, and then use the wheelchair as normal.

My range has dropped — is the battery faulty?

It depends. Some gradual range reduction over time is normal as the battery ages. Cold weather also reduces range temporarily — a noticeable drop in winter is not always a sign of a faulty battery.

If your battery is holding noticeably less charge after just a few months, call us on 0330 520 0720. We will run through diagnostic questions over the phone — no charge during the warranty period. See our Battery Care guide for more detail.

My battery is showing signs of damage — what do I do?

Stop using it immediately. Signs of damage include: swelling or bulging casing, leaking, an unusual smell, unusual heat when not charging, or visible damage from a knock, drop, or water exposure.

Call us on 0330 520 0720. Damaged lithium-ion batteries cannot be sent through standard couriers — we arrange specialist hazardous-goods collection, free of charge if it is a warranty issue. Do not store, charge, or put a damaged battery in general waste.

Can I buy a replacement battery from you?

Yes. Genuine replacement batteries for every product we sell are available from our UK service centre. Call us on 0330 520 0720 with your order number or product serial number, and we will identify the right battery and quote you. Most are despatched within 1–3 working days.

If you are chronically sick or disabled and the battery is being supplied as part of a repair on your qualifying mobility product, the entire repair (including the battery) can often be supplied at 0% VAT. See our VAT Relief guide.

I've tried everything and it still won't charge

No problem — call our UK team on 0330 520 0720 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) and we will walk you through it on the phone, or arrange a service centre visit if needed. Most charging issues are a quick fix.

Need Help With Charging?

Our UK service team is happy to walk you through any battery or charging question over the phone. Most issues can be solved in a single call, and battery diagnostics are free during the warranty period.
