Remote Pairing Guide
Step-by-step instructions for pairing the wireless remote with your ComfyGO electric wheelchair. Pick your model below to see the exact steps for your chair.
Not sure which model you have? Look on the sticker under the seat or on the chair frame, or check the box your chair came in.
Before you pair: check the wheelchair is in Drive Mode
All ComfyGO wheelchairs have Red Freewheel Levers on each motor (one on each side, near the rear wheels). Both must be flipped to "Drive" mode — not "Freewheel" mode — for the chair to respond to the joystick or remote.
If the chair powers on but doesn't move, the most common reason is that one or both freewheel levers are still in "Freewheel" mode. Flip both levers to "Drive" before testing the remote pairing.

Common Problems & Troubleshooting
Applies to all ComfyGO electric wheelchairs with a wireless remote.
The chair won't move at all (most common issue)
By far the most common reason is the freewheel levers. All ComfyGO wheelchairs have Red Freewheel Levers on each motor (one on each side, near the rear wheels). These must be in "Drive" mode for the chair to respond to controls.
How to check:
- Look at both rear wheel motors
- Flip both Red Freewheel Levers to "Drive" position
- Both must be in Drive — not just one
If both levers are correctly set to Drive and the chair still won't move, check that the chair's joystick is centred (not pushed in any direction) when you turn the chair on. If the alarm beeps, the joystick was not centred at startup.
The remote's green light doesn't come on at all
Try: Check that the AAA batteries are fresh and inserted the right way round (matching the + and – marks inside the battery compartment). The remote does not come with batteries pre-installed.
If the remote still doesn't turn on with new batteries, the remote may need replacing. Call us on 0330 520 0720 and we'll arrange a replacement.
I followed the steps but the remote isn't controlling the chair
First, check the basics:
- The chair's main joystick controller is powered on. The remote alone can't turn the chair on.
- Both Red Freewheel Levers are in "Drive" mode, not "Freewheel".
- The remote's batteries are fresh and the green light on the power button is on or flashing.
- The chair's joystick is in the centre position (not pushed forward, backward, or sideways).
If all of the above are correct, the pairing may have failed. Repeat the pairing steps from the beginning. Make sure you press the buttons firmly and in the order shown — most pairing problems come from skipping a step or pressing too briefly.
The remote was working, but stopped after a battery change
This is normal. Some remotes lose pairing memory when batteries are removed. Just repeat the pairing steps from the beginning — it should take about a minute.
Pairing succeeded but the remote feels slow or laggy
Try: Move the remote closer to the chair. Bluetooth range is around 5–10 metres in clear conditions, but walls, large metal objects, or Wi-Fi routers nearby can reduce it.
If lag persists at close range, the batteries in the remote may be running low. Replace with fresh AAA batteries and try again.
I have two ComfyGO chairs — does each one need its own remote?
Yes. Each remote pairs to one specific chair's joystick controller. You can't use one remote to control two chairs, and you can't pair two remotes to one chair simultaneously.
If you've lost or damaged your remote, we sell genuine replacements. Call us on 0330 520 0720 or check our spare parts collection.
