What Happens After You Submit
- ✓ We confirm receipt — you will receive an email within one business day letting you know we have your declaration.
- ✓ At checkout, your card is authorised but not charged — you will not pay anything until your order is being prepared for despatch.
- ✓ At fulfilment, we review every order — we check your declaration against each product in your basket. Some products qualify for VAT relief, some do not. We then charge your card for the correct amount only — VAT-free for qualifying products, standard rate for any non-qualifying items.
- ✓ No surprises — your dispatch confirmation will show the final, correct amount you have been charged.
- ✓ Already placed an order? The VAT element is refunded to your original payment method within 5 business days of approval.
- ✓ If we have questions — we will call or email you to clarify before completing the review and charging your card.
Common Questions
Do I need a doctor's note?
No. HMRC does not require medical proof. Your declaration on this form is a self-certified legal document. We do not ask for medical evidence.
What if I'm not sure I qualify?
If you have a chronic condition that significantly affects your daily life, you very likely qualify. If you are unsure, call us on 0330 520 0720 — we will talk it through. We cannot make the decision for you, but we can explain the criteria.
Can I submit on someone else's behalf?
Yes. A relative, carer, or friend can complete this form on behalf of an eligible chronically sick or disabled person. The product must be for that person's personal or domestic use, and the form should name them as the user.
When is my card charged?
Your card is authorised at checkout but not actually charged until we prepare your order for despatch. At that point we review your declaration against each product in your basket and charge only the correct amount — VAT-free for qualifying products, standard rate for any non-qualifying items. You will see the final amount on your dispatch confirmation.
Will my health information be safe?
Yes. Your information is treated as special category data under UK GDPR Article 9. We collect only what HMRC requires, store it securely for the legally required period (minimum 6 years), and never use it for marketing. Read our VAT Relief Privacy Notice for full details.
What if my declaration is rejected?
If we have concerns about your declaration, we will contact you within one business day to clarify. If we cannot confirm eligibility, your order will process at the standard VAT-inclusive price.
If you have already placed an order at the VAT-inclusive price and the VAT relief was not approved, you may still cancel under our 30-Day Home Trial. Please note that standard return shipping costs apply for change-of-mind returns — see our Returns Policy for details.
Do I need to apply VAT Relief every time I order?
No. Once your account is verified, your VAT exemption status is saved. All future orders from your account will automatically have VAT removed at checkout for qualifying products. You only need to complete this form once.
