♿️ About 440 HD Plus bariatric electric wheelchair
The 440 HD Plus is our heavy-duty folding powerchair, built for UK users who need a higher weight capacity without giving up the convenience of a chair that fits in the car boot. The reinforced frame supports up to 200kg, and the larger 26Ah battery gives up to 25 miles per charge. A 12Ah battery is also offered for airline travel and lighter day-to-day use. Despite the stronger frame the heaviest single lift piece is around 24kg. Cushion and backrest upgrades in leather or linen are available. Configured in the UK before dispatch, with free UK delivery, eligible VAT relief and a 30-day home trial.
🛡️ 440 HD Plus weight capacity and frame strength
The 440 HD Plus is rated for users up to 200kg, with the reinforced frame engineered to handle that load through daily use rather than as a maximum. The main tubes are heavier-gauge aluminium, welded along longer seams than a standard folder, and the seat pan is strengthened to spread weight more evenly. Axles, bearings and motor mounts are upsized to match. The practical result is a chair that doesn't flex under cornering, maintains straight-line stability over uneven UK pavements, and keeps its seat geometry over years of use. As a working guide, stay 10 to 15kg below the rated capacity to account for day-to-day weight variation, clothing and anything stowed on the chair.
🔋 Battery range: daily use vs travel
The 440 HD Plus is offered with two battery options. The 26Ah pack is the daily-use choice, giving up to 25 miles of range on a full charge — enough for most full days of shopping, appointments and errands without charging again. The 12Ah pack is the travel choice, coming in under the 300Wh limit most airlines set for lithium batteries in the cabin, and covering around 12 to 14 miles per charge. Real-world range typically sits at 70 to 85 per cent of the headline figure, and heavier users see the lower end of that range. Many 440 HD Plus buyers keep both batteries — the 26Ah for everyday use and the 12Ah for holidays and lighter days. Charging takes 6 to 8 hours from flat.
🚗 Folding a bariatric powerchair into the car boot
Despite its 200kg capacity, the 440 HD Plus folds to a package most UK family cars can take. Folded dimensions are roughly 90cm long, 63cm wide and 42cm high. The battery comes out first, which drops the heaviest single lift piece to around 24kg. A saloon or estate handles it comfortably with the rear seats in place; a supermini may need the rear seats folded down. For users who lift solo, load the chair on its side rather than upright, which keeps the lift closer to waist height and reduces strain on the back. If you'd like to confirm the fit against your specific car, our UK team can check folded dimensions against most makes and models before you order.
